The leap

First of all..Many Happy Returns of the day to everyone who were born today ! Good to know that you grow an year older officially once in only 4 years..I wonder how well u would celebrate it to make worth of the wait :P

February 29th.The extra day.This date reminds me always of the frustration i faced/face while working on Calendar based problems in Aptitude.

The concept:February 29 is a date that occurs only every four years, in years evenly divisible by 4, such as 1988, 1996, 2008 or 2016 (with the exception of century years not divisible by 400, such as 1900).

The Algorithm : if ((year modulo 4 is 0) and (year modulo 100 is not 0)) or (year modulo 400 is 0) then leap else no_leap

Few interesting facts :
* There is a tradition that women may make a proposal of marriage to men only in leap years, further restricted in some cases to only February 29.
* In 1712,February 29 is followed by February 30 in Sweden, in a move to abolish the Swedish calendar for a return to the Old style.
* A person who was born on February 29 may be called a "leapling". In non-leap years they may celebrate their birthday on 28 February or 1 March.

Edit : In a few years from now..May be for the next leap year, i wish to see myself 4 folds from what i am now,in thought,in writing,in knowledge,in my purse if u want me to add, but not in physical size mind you.

Are you social enough ??

These are days of mad rush where a person doesn’t have a time to sit, relax and think for himself and about the world. And in the process, anything that irritates him often mounts up to as a problem. Even a person with impeccable energy levels can get bogged down because of the illusion and inhibition of a problem with him or around him. It only takes for an initiative by a second or a third person to calm things down and help the person realize the situation and deviate to the small things in life that can heal his stress and make his mind better relaxed, and him a better person. And as we all know, often, people with awakened social consciousness are more active and morally stable.

People are the genes that maketh the society. Organizations that collectively and collaboratively work for a better future in various fields are a paradigm of this. A person who is socially conscious is inclined to avoid confrontation by being communicatively efficient. The greater the influence of the communication source over the recipient, the greater would be the recipient’s change/effect in favor of the source and his objective. And this calls for a vibrant yet diligent set of ideas that when implemented can bring about considerable change, if not a big one , in the way people think and act.

The tech savvy generation has a certain déjà vu in terms of how and when to handle things. Corporate firms these days rope in individuals who have the zeal and the capacity in themselves to do something for the company, for themselves and for the society. Contributions of the youth in these activities have been notable. The challenge for the companies has been to address and handle both the desires and frustrations of the younger generation. There is a certain philosophy in terms of the pressures the individuals ought to handle and the challenges arising emotionally because of work.

Often, the workplaces today are so diverse that we find mini countries in themselves. People differing in ideologies, nationalities, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds conjure up to work. And in such situation, a difference in opinion is a crux matter. The way people look at issues, the insight and knowledge they have in them, the way they think and react to circumstances are as dissimilar as unpredictable.

This calls for the establishment of a strong common ground for all individuals to stand tall and make their point so that good ideas are not lost in the crowd and wrong mentalities don’t carry forward. Vox populi, which is pretty much a inherent part of any firm or an organization today, is the best and the most reliable means where in any individual can be a part of. The only thing that is of concern is how well they utilize these resources and opportunities and how managed the resources really are. It is sad to note that such resources are often used as a ground for complaints and cribbing rather than discussions that help for a better living. Attitude of individuals is another major factor that is directly manifest in these forums. This again is directly proportional to the ideas and ideologies he/she has in life. Responsibility of a person as a contributor to the society has to be made clear and it should be reinforced that if an individual expects anything at all from the society, he can only get it if he has given anything to the society in the first place.

Generation Y concentrates on being civic minded as an individual, consumer and employee, and it is the most watched about group as pioneers in building tomorrow’s society by historians, critics and sociologists alike. And being in the centre of such attraction, young minds are ambitious enough to make their own brand of social consciousness. Call it as their attempt to add weight in their curriculum vitae , as a mark of individualism or even as an act of going with the crowd, today’s youngsters understand and exhibit the need to volunteer and help for a better society. Their concern for the environment, their worry for the needy and their frustration towards their surroundings all are catalysts in nurturing their civic responsibility to the next level.

The blend of such young, raring-to-go minds and experienced, mature thoughts can surely bring about an effective society. The young guns have their ideas to implement, and when taken under the umbrella of expert inputs, and knowledgeable guidance, even a lethargic mind would take notice and start thinking. And in this process, true potential can be recognized. It is a two way progression. The youth should take care and understand from the wealth of experience which the seniors possess and have the patience to learn and flexibility to adapt. The seniors also should understand that they have to go with the constant learning process and try to be as instrumental as possible to cultivate the ideas and ambitions the youth have.

So i can only ask you one thing..Are you socially conscious ?

Give it a thought..

At times people let time take decisions for them rather than they taking decisions for themselves. There can be many factors which influence this. It can be because they don’t have the proper mental stamina to take the situation into their hands, either they are preoccupied with more important things in life , are influenced by other sources , are compelled in doing so or are too scared in thinking of the future. It can so happen that in lines of thinking of the future, they miss the basic that life is individualistic in the end. No matter whom u live with , whom you care for , whom you succumb to or whom you compromise for, at the death bed, no one will be with you other than your true inner self.

Imagine this. You know you would die in a few minutes. You have no time left in this world. You can’t change whatever you’ve done in the past. Its no time to regret. You want to take something with you, some person , something valuable , which you feel you cant live without. But you know it isn’t possible. And no one is as stupid to leave their lives for you. Imagine your legs losing weight. Imagine your mind going into darkness. Imagine yourself being sucked into an unknown hollowness where you have nothing but only you. Lifeless. Scary thought right ?? That’s how it would be. And when you feel you will regret something at such a time, why do it at the first place ? Many questions to answer at that time. Many for which you might not have an answer that would satisfy you to close your eyes peacefully.

And to avoid such situations , if a person can take a few minutes off thinking about this before taking important decisions in life, I’m sure we would have very less troubled mortals. Agreed that thoughts, mind-set, morals , feelings, society, community , race, religion, situation , belief, principles , persons, individualism, care, satisfaction, spontaneity all such issues come into foray while a decision is ought to be taken. But just a thought about the future, just a peek into what would happen, most importantly to themselves, after a few years and how the decision would take toll on them mentally , would do wonders . Also avoids many situations which we had talked about in the previous para.

In my opinion, a person should question himself what he wants, how dearly he wants, how he can cope with others for the decision he has taken, whether he would be really satisfied with it, whether he would repent,retaliate,revert about it at any point of time in his life, and whether he would be at peace with it in the journey. Every person is responsible for himself, for the way his life is, for the decisions he take, for the way he is in the past, right now, in the near future and at the end. I guess the attitude, want to achieve something is the driving force behind decisions. Influence is inevitable. But what is life if you are living it on the order of others ? If you feel life will go on, then this may not make minimum sense. But if you are of the opinion that life is under your control and you have to manage things that go or don’t go in your way, this is just basic. I feel this very thing separates graduates from IITans, Businessmen from the Successful ones, Actors from Stars.

Give it a thought. Unfortunately, life doesn’t give a second chance.
